Atlantic Marine LP (Bermuda & India) and Dorchester Maritime Limited (Isle of Man, Poland, Australia & Sierra Leone), both members of the Schulte Group, have agreed to form a new strategic partnership combining ship management, human resources, maritime technology and engineering services.
As of 1st January 2007, David Furnival and Jens Alers will lead Dorchester Atlantic Marine as Joint Managing Directors.
Jens Alers, Atlantic Marine’s MD: “This new strategic partnership is the logical progression of our businesses: The two companies are already owned by the same shareholders and have shared the same familiar planetary ocean logo since 1978. Jointly we have served a number of clients very successfully for many years. We now take that cooperation to its logical conclusion by merging what is best about our two organizations and grow as one. Personally, I am very excited to see these two Schulte Group companies combine, because I have worked successively for both Dorchester Maritime and Atlantic Marine for the last 12 years.”
David Furnival, Dorchester Maritime’s MD: “In most areas of our business Dorchester Maritime’s and Atlantic Marine’s activities complement each other. Dorchester Maritime has an excellent reputation in tanker, gas and offshore shipping, with robust developed operational systems, while Atlantic Marine is strong in the dry-cargo and container markets and also has valuable expertise in certain other specialized tonnage sectors.”
David Oldfield expands his role of Fleet Crewing Director for the combined organisation and states that the combined resources will enhance the current manpower availability for the benefit of existing and new clients.
The main bases of operations in Bermuda, Isle of Man, Poland, India and Australia will be even closer and more committed to our North American, European, and Middle Eastern clients.
Dorchester Atlantic Marine will employ 2,500 seafarers on a fleet of almost 140 vessels under technical and crew management, supported by 100 employees onshore.
The combined managed fleet demonstrates the wide range of expertise in the organization: LPG, Ethylene carriers, Product, Chemical and Crude oil tankers, FPSO’s & FSU’s, as well as a wide range of bulk carriers, gravity-fed self-unloaders, container vessels, PSVs and research vessels.
The company also has a significant presence in the LNG carrier market with over ten percent of the world fleet under crew or technical management.
In addition to the core business of ship management, many of Dorchester Atlantic Marine’s clients retain the company for maritime services ranging from ship and propulsion design, plan approval, newbuilding & conversion supervision and other onshore construction and service projects, to gas & chemical training as well as cryogenic consultancy work. Dorchester Atlantic Marine is also working on direct investments into selected maritime projects.
